Make a Calla Boutonniere

Splitting Lily Grass Blades

Developing floral designer skills is learning how to use greenery and flower products imaginatively.  Bear grass is thinner and more flexible than lily grass - but I didn't want to order more than one bunch of grass.

Instead I will simply split the blades of Lily Grass to get the thinner grass that I want.

Starting at the top, gently split the blade in the center.

Carefully pull the two pieces apart to get a smaller blade.

I looped the thinner blade and placed against the bottom of the calla flower head.

This may seem like a lot of trouble, but creating different textures and sizes of design elements is the mark of a good designer.

Use corsage tape to secure the smaller loop into place.
