How to Set a Table



Knowing how to set a table properly will give your reception a look of elegance and grace. There are some differing opinions, but most professional caterers would agree on the general placement below.



The glasses are arranged in the upper right, starting inward with the largest, which is a water glass. You can follow with optional wine glasses or other beverage glasses (such as iced tea.)

The bread and butter plate is in the upper right, with the dessert utensils located at either the top of the plates.

A charger is a large serving plate which remains on the table as the other soup, salad and main course plates are set on top of it and then removed as the dinner progresses.
