Wiring Sunflower Bouquet
Easy Directions for Wedding Flower Tutorials

Wiring sunflowers for this bouquet may not seem important, since sunflowers have such a heavy, woody stem. But sunflower heads have a tendency to droop forward, which I think could cause them to snap off. Since I don't like to leave anything to chance (especially since this is the only flower in the entire bouquet) I err on the side of caution and go ahead and give them the support of a wire!
The wire will also help secure the ribbon that will be wrapped around the stem in the next step.

Simply insert a heavy gauge wire (18 or 20 preferred) into the underside of the flower head. Insert deep enough to give the flower head support. Some would push through and make a hook, but I think it could damage the center of the head, so I simply go deep enough to assure support.

Wrap the wire down the cleaned stem of the sunflower.

I don't bother taping this wire, since I plan to cover the stem with a ribbon anyway.
