What should I do for my bouquet idea?

by Lorena
(Terrell, Texas)

I do not have any questions about a particular flower, but I have a question regarding the flowers in my bouquet. I am planning to have the people that mean the most to me in my life hand me the flowers to my bouquet while I am walking down the isle. Since you have experience making bouquets I was wondering what you think would be the best way to go about having that happen at my ceremony. Should I carry filler and just gradually add the flowers, or is there some type of premade holder for the flowers for me just to simply slip them into? I appreciate you taking the time out to read my questions.

This is a lovely idea. You can handle this a couple of different ways. For both - you'll need to have the flowers prepared with clean stems cut to the right length and ready to go in your bouquet.

You can either have a prepared bouquet holder lightly greened. See tutorial here:

It's wise to slip the individual flowers into water tubes. (Hot, nervous hands can wilt the flowers before hand) You can even tie a slender, decorative bow around each water tube. Keep the stems short if you intend to slip them into a bouquet holder.

As you go down the aisle, let each giver know that they are to draw the flower out of the water tube and hand it to you. If you cut the flower stems at an angle, they are easier to insert into your bouquet.

Another way is to keep the stems longer, adding to a hand held as you begin down the aisle. The last person (usually the mother of the bride) then ties a satin bow around the cluster of flowers as her daughter holds it, giving the final finishing touch. Please note that hand ties are harder than they look . . . if you are unused to making bouquets it may turn out rather clumpy and straight up and down instead of the flared bouquet you are used to seeing.

Either way - I think it's a lovely way in making your trip down the aisle filled with love and kisses along the way!
