Stephanotis Flowers
Preparing for Use in Bouquets

Bridal Bouquet Design Techniques

Stephanotis flowers need certain basic care steps taken to prepare them for use in a bridal bouquet. You may want to consider "hardening" the flowers before use. This simply means to soak them in a cool water bath for 20 - 30 minutes before use.

Stephanotis are from the Milkweed family. They are plucked from plants, not grown on individual stems like roses or carnations. When you order them from a florist or wholesaler, they usually arrive packed 20 to a box. (Your wholesaler may have larger quantities available in packs).

Wash your hands before touching them. The oils on your fingers can brown these delicate white petals.

Stephanotis wilt quickly without a water source when removed from the cooler. Therefore you should use special cotton wrapped stephanotis picks soaked in water treated with fresh flower food.

Gently pop the green stem off the bottom of this tiny flower.

Gently hold the stephanotis by the throat and insert the soaked pick up into the bottom center of the flower.

Although the bloom is now ready to insert into the bouquet, florists often finish this flower by cutting a white or colored pearl corsage pin short with wire cutters and inserting it down into the top center of the throat of the bloom.

You may also substitute clear or colored Diamante pins by Lomey for a fun sparkle accent.
