need ideas for adding color to bouquet

by jane
(tallahassee florida usa)

I am an amateur florist..I am making a bouquet for a girl whose colors are ivory and tiffany blue. We have the flowers for the bouquet (silk) and some gorgeous ostrich feathers. All of these are ivory. As you know blue flowers are kind of rare. We are having trouble finding some the right color to add to the ivory flowers. I will be adding some jewel accents but wondered if some ribbon loops would look alright in the flowers. It would take quite a few ...to get enough color...or I could use netting...what do you advice?

As a florist, I am also reluctant to add any color of flower to a bouquet just because "it's the right color". My goal is always to make my silk bouquets "look real".

I agree you are better off looking for a colored accent to add to the bouquet instead of searching for a flower dyed that color.

Remember being subtle is the key. I assume the bride is also drawing the Tiffany color out in other ways such as table settings, etc.

Perhaps you could frame her bouquet with a turquoise (slightly darker color) wire collar. Decorative wire is the hottest new item that can add color without "dating" the bouquet to look like the seventies.

If you add ribbon - I would try to find a sheer ribbon and just add a few clusters of loops here and there. Don't overdo - because again it'll begin to look like the bouquets of 1970's.

Consider ribbon wrapping the handle with the Tiffany color - again - very up-to-date look while adding in the lovely accent of color.
