Make Your Own Wedding Bouquet

Make your own wedding bouquet following the simple step by step tutorial below. You will need a Belle wedding holder, either a bouquet stand or a narrow necked vase that is weighted down with marbles or gravel, a sharp knife, few stems of 22 gauge wire, corsage tape and your flowers. In the design shown below, I used:

* 2 white Cymbidium Orchids
* 6 stems leatherleaf fern
* 2 stems hypericum berries
* lily grass
*stem of pittosporum
* 1 stem tree fern* 3 stems of peach spray roses

Green in the Wedding Bouquet Holder

When you make your own wedding bouquet, begin by what florists call "greening in". The first few stems of leather leaf fern are the framing for your design.

Since the heads of the flowers will eventually extend past this point, the length of the framing greens will determine the final size of the bouquet. Don't go overboard or you'll be left holding a huge amount of flowers!

After encircling the bouquet with the leather leaf fern, I added more texture to my flower arrangement with green hypericum berries.

Using florist wire, I looped several stems of lily grass and inserted them into the bouquet at an angle.

I also added several stems that are not looped. See what an interesting shape the floral is now beginning to take.

I then added pittosporum. This interesting foliage comes in both varigated and solid green.

A few sprigs of tree fern and your bouquet is now greened and ready for flowers!

Adding Your Flowers

The white cymbidium orchids are the focal point of this bouquet. You can substitute standard roses, lilies or other large headed flowers if you wish.

Orchids come cut and nestled on cotton. You must cut two pieces of wire and pierce the stem of the orchidin a "cross shape".

Bend the wires down and tape with corsage tape. You should now have a wire "stem" to insert into the bouquet holder.

Place the two orchids as shown below.

Cut apart the laterals of a stem of spray roses. Place two of the roses under the orchids. Use the longer stem of roses to come down at an angle (over the looped grass) as shown.

Add a couple of more roses on the top at an angle matching the ones below.

The finished bouquet should be sprayed with a flower sealant . Store in a cool air-conditioned room, remist often with the spray and dribble water over the Oasis foam, keeping it wet until your wedding day.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to make your own wedding bouquet. You can experiment by adding more flowers . . or different flowers. The basic steps on greening will be the same!
