Bridal Shower Invitation Wording

Hmmm . . exactly how does bridal shower invitation wording go? The do's and don't for writing the perfect invitations that meets all the proper rules of etiquette.

Line One - Extending the Invitation

The first of line of an invitation always states the purpose of the note to begin with. Inside, the first opening line should be similar to this:

  • You are cordially invited to a bridal shower in honor of ____________

  • We request the pleasure of your company at a bridal shower in honor of ___________________________

If the notecard is printed already showing that it is an invitation to a bridal shower, then the first line should tell who the shower is being given for.

Line Two - The Theme of the Bridal Shower

If the bridal shower does not have a theme, ignore this point. But if it does, be sure to specify what it is. Ideas for shower themes include personal, kitchen, bath, or book.

It is helpful for various showers to include a separate sheet listing colors in bath, bedroom and kitchen. If it is a Lingerie shower, include a small sheet noting the bride's sizes.

Line Three - Name the Date and Time

Be specific, including the year and time of day.

Line Four - Give Complete Address of Location

Do NOT assume that every guest will "know" where it is! Give a complete address, including city and state in case one of the guests need to Mapquest it.

If it is complicated to find the room where the shower is being held, be kind to your guests and lead the way with balloons, signs or other markers on street addresses. Be sure to remove these after the party is over.

Line Five - R.S.V.P. Invitation

State who the shower is being given by and include a phone number or e-mail address for r.s.v.p's.

What NOT to Include

Do not include registry information on the shower invitation itself. If you must, enclose a list where the couple is registered separate from the invitation.

It is NEVER in good taste to have a "Money Shower". This is a decision made by the giver - not requested by the shower hosts or recipient!

Bridal shower invitation wording doesn't have to be overly elaborate or stiff - just write from the heart and keep in mind this is a fun party for friends of the bride to gather and show their love for her.
